Description

Chokeberry Herbhoney 370g

Why is chokeberry herbhoney worth using?

Here are the most important reasons why chokeberry herbhoney is worth using:

1. A wealth of antioxidants:

  • Chokeberry is one of the richest sources of anthocyanins and flavonoids, which have strong antioxidant properties.

  • They help neutralise free radicals in the body, which may reduce the risk of many illnesses, including cardiovascular disease and some cancers.

  • Antioxidants also support skin health, helping to counter the ageing process.

2. Support for the circulatory system:

  • The components contained in chokeberry, such as polyphenols and rutin, help regulate blood pressure.

  • They may help lower the level of “bad” cholesterol (LDL) and raise the level of the “good” kind (HDL).

  • Chokeberry herbhoney may improve the elasticity of blood vessels and support heart health in general.

3. Strengthening immunity:

  • Chokeberry is rich in vitamins, in particular vitamin C, which is key to the proper functioning of the immune system.

  • Herbhoney can help in fighting colds, flu and inflammation.

4. A cleansing effect and support for treatment:

  • It supports the removal of heavy metals and drug residues from the body.

  • It may ease the effects of radiotherapy.

  • In folk medicine it is recommended for conditions of the pancreas and liver.

5. Other health benefits:

  • It supports eye health thanks to anthocyanins, which may improve circulation in the blood vessels of the eye.

  • It may help regulate blood sugar levels.

  • It has a strengthening effect and gives energy, which is especially valuable in times of weakness.

  • It has calming and relaxing properties.

Chokeberry Herbhoney - how to use it?

Chokeberry herbhoney can be used as a natural sweetener for teas, drinks, shakes and desserts, and also as an addition to curd cheese or bread. It is important not to heat it to high temperatures, as it may lose some of its valuable properties.

Herbhoneys - what are they?

Herbhoneys are not honeys. Herbhoneys are the result of successful cooperation between bees and beekeeper. They will not behave like our traditional honeys. The source herbhoney is not flower nectar (as in the case of traditional honey) but a syrup made from specific herbs. Unfortunately, not all herbs flower (produce nectar) – so bees are unable to make nectar honey from them. People, however, came to nature’s aid by serving the bees a nutritious and healthy herbal feed during the dearth period. The herbal syrup produced by the beekeeper is only processed by the bees, which means the final product is created with the involvement of these insects, but is not prepared by them from start to finish. The bees enrich the herbal infusion with their enzymes and with additional nectar. Herbhoney is usually made from plants that are not melliferous and could not naturally serve the bees for producing honey. That is one reason why the name “herbal honey” is not used here, as it might suggest that it was created in exactly the same way as commonly known honeys.

This is exactly how herbhoneys- combining the virtues of classic honey with the unique properties of individual health-giving herbs.

Herbhoneys - a boost not only for bees but for people too

Herbal honeys can be counted among health foods. They are not medicines, but consuming them strengthens the body’s natural defence mechanisms and supports the treatment of many illnesses. There are many scientific sources and studies confirming the beneficial influence herbhoneys on our health. As the result of successful cooperation between people and bees, herbhoneys bring benefits to both sides. Herbal honeys are a boost not only for the bees during the dearth period, but also for us at times of falling immunity and general weakness.

How are herbhoneys made?

Herbhoneys are made during dearth periods in the apiary. Some apiaries (especially stationary ones) are at times exposed to a shortage of forage. This is influenced by geographical and weather conditions and by the crop rotation used by local farmers. Although the agricultural character of the Lublin region provides plenty of bee forage, it is not always possible to produce the most sought-after types of honey, such as honeydew or heather honey. That is precisely why beekeepers make herbhoneys – so that they can produce goods from the apiary with proven health benefits for our body. The most common ones with proven health effects are nettle syrup, pine syrup and elderflower syrup.

Herbhoneys are made from a herbal syrup – such a syrup is produced from herbs that do not yield nectar but do contain valuable health-giving ingredients, by preparing a decoction from them together with sugar in a 1:3 ratio to obtain a feed which is then given to the bees. The bees take this syrup from the feeder, add their own enzymes and place it in the combs, treating it much like nectar or honeydew. Once the excess water has evaporated from the solution, the bees cap it and the herbhoney is then ready to be collected.

Are herbhoneys honeys?

Despite the similar name and the involvement of bees in the process of making herbhoneys, they cannot be called honeys, because they are not made from nectar or honeydew. Honey is a name protected by law and is reserved solely for products created 100% by bees without human involvement.

It should be noted, however, that many sources confirm their high content of phenolic compounds, which have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects and which the bees could not have obtained naturally from these plants, as they do not yield nectar.
